SEPTEMBER 2023 – Hello Autumn: Information of future events by Second Helpings

Highlights and Holidays

As it was our 40th Wedding Anniversary in early September, we treated ourselves to a 5-night break in Palma (first time to Mallorca). Of course it coincided with the hottest September week ever in the UK!! Never mind, we had wall to wall sunshine too; we wined and dined, walked almost 40 miles and took a beautiful scenic trip on the open train to Soller – utter bliss.

The highlight of the trip was an evening meal in one of Mallorca’s top restaurant called Fera Palma. It was undoubtedly the best meal of my life so far – from the moment we stepped through the huge oak doors into the courtyard and then into the beautifully restored Old Town Palace, we were consumed by the exquisite surroundings, the spectacular food and the warm and friendly staff. We were seated in the tranquil gardens underneath the trees & the moonlit sky ….. on the table was a copy of the chef’s tasting menu, signed by the man himself – a perfect start!

We opted not to go for the wine pairing offered with each course but settled for a classic negroni to start, followed by a couple of glasses of something unbelievably smooth (and red).

The Chef’s menu was a selection of Fera Tapas

BLUEFIN TUNA
Tomato | Cucumber | Caviar

CARABINERO CARPACCIO
Avocado | Ginger | Mango

LOBSTER RAVIOLI
Langoustine | Espuma XO

TURBOT
Salted Lemon | Potato | Beurre Blanc

SIMMENTAL BEEF FILET
Mizuna | Shiitake | Sweetbread

GREEN SHISO
Yuzu | Matcha Tea

PANNA COTTA
Vanilla | Strawberry | Yoghurt

SWEET DREAMS
Selection of Surprises

I am completely mystified why chef Simon Petuschning has not obtained Michelin star status and would urge anyone visiting Palma in the future to visit this hidden gem!

One thing to note, its a “special occasion” treat at Euros 145.00 each. Plus supplements for the wagyu beef and the cheese courses and, of course, for the wine pairing.

We overhead a table of 4 muttering when they got the bill (they opted for the sommelier wine pairing at Euros +185 plus the supplements of Wagu Beef at Euros +69 and Cheese at Euros +16) –which added up to be slightly more than the price of their recently purchased Labrador puppy 😊

Inaugural Yoga & Lunch Session

Our inaugural Yoga & Lunch session, held on Saturday 2nd September was a big hit. The sun came out 5 minutes before the ladies arrived and stayed out all afternoon. Alex Mannering (YourYoga), held a wonderful 90 minute centring, grounding, calming session in the garden, which was suitable for all abilities. Afterwards we enjoyed some delicious canapes, some pink fizz and then tucked into a delicious buffet lunch – a perfect way to relax with friends .

Alex teaches regular classes at Starborough Manor and you can find all the details on her FB page.

**WE ARE THINKING OF HOLDING A SESSION IN DECEMBER ON A SATURDAY OR SUNDAY AT 1PM FOLLOWED BY A FESTIVE CREAM TEA AND MULLED WINE – MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW…… IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH**
