The inspiration behind the brunch initiative ……. “A couple of birthday’s ago, Paul treated me to a late breakfast at the Ashdown Park Hotel. It was a memorable treat. White linen tablecloths, silver service in a beautiful restaurant. A fabulous selection of fruit, croissants, pastries and breads of every colour and description. Yoghurt, granola, cheese, nuts and honey. Next came a choice of freshly prepared hot dishes of sausages, bacon, tomatoes, eggs, eggs and more eggs! Smashed avocadoes with chilli – the list goes on – pots of tea and coffee in abundance. It wasn’t cheap but it was a special treat and I will remember it for years to come ….”
As well as our new Brunch menu, you can also enjoy a formal/informal lunch, a luxurious afternoon tea or a relaxing multi course supper!!
Updated menus can be found on the website but remember, these are just suggestions. If there is something you specifically want then please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.
January Culture – Swan Lake
New Year’s resolution …. get better on social media, more theatre, film, music – special “us” time
I’d been looking forward to this since booking in September last year and Paul came along reluctantly, thinking it was just going to be a lot of men in feather trousers prancing around!! He couldn’t be more wrong!
Where do I begin? Of all the incredible West End shows I’ve had the privilege of seeing, Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake exceeded all of my expectations and now takes the number one spot as the best thing I’ve ever seen at a theatre!
Everything about the performance was mesmerising. The set design, the mechanical corgi (hilarious), the costumes (stunning), Tchaikovsky’s score paired with such powerful choreography, absolutely awe-inspiring –the men were athletic and graceful, intense and powerful 😊 – perfect, perfect, perfect! Tears were flowing during the very longstanding ovation.

A delicious, no fuss, no knead Walnut & Date Soda Bread
In a large bowl mix together 450gms mixed grain flour Duchy Organic Strong Malted Grain Bread Flour with 50gms large porridge oats, 50gms walnut pieces, 100gms pitted dates (chopped), 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda together and make a well in the middle. Pour in 250ml buttermilk, 200ml natural yoghurt and 1 tablespoon of runny honey. Get your hands in and mix together into a sticky dough and then form into a round. Turn onto a lined baking sheet and make some deep cuts into it to form wedges – bake in the over 180C for 50 minutes until hard and golden. Brush with melted butter when it comes out and cool on a wire rack.
So easy and so very delicious (and healthy).

This event started as a MacMillan Coffee morning back in 2020 when we had to limit the amount of people we could let in at any one time, due to Covid restrictions!! It’s now grown into something quite special and, to date, we have raised over £5,000 for our two charities – MacMillan Cancer Relief and the Alzheimer’s Society – massive thanks to everyone who has helped us over the years!
It’s a long way off but if you want to be involved in any way, let us know?
