Summer fun!
I’m supposed to do these news updates / blogs every six weeks but I see the last one I sent out was in January!! Where on earth have those six months gone? So huge apologies to all those who have signed up expecting regular updates – I will try harder in the future! A very warm welcome to all our new subscribers.
Its been a busy time with endless celebrations from 1st birthdays to 80th birthdays, from christenings to weddings and some very special anniversaries.
And of course, there was the Coronation! Remember the rain? I purchased a life-size cardboard cut out of the man himself and you will see him featured at various locations, always surrounded with lots of admirers looking for a photo opportunity! He will be opening my Charity Open Day in July …. more about that later.
Here are images of some wonderful memories I’d like to share, I hope you enjoy them…..
We have a delicious summer menu on offer and if you come and dine with us as part of a party of six people or more, we are offering a £25 discount until the end of July.
Most popular dishes, some of which are inspired by a recent trip to Portugal, have been mixed buffet lunches (something for everyone) – lots of fresh, vibrant coloured salads such as watermelon, feta and pistachios and courgetti with cherry tomatoes and smoked corn, charcuterie boards with meats and cheeses, home made hummus with roasted nuts and whipped feta with citrus fruits. Teriyaki beef and chicken skewers with mixed peppers and red onions – gently smoked and grilled on the new Ninja BBQ Grill/Smoker are also a big hit!
CHARITY OPEN GARDEN DAY – SAVE THE DATE
Saturday 15th July
From the end of May until early July, the garden is at its best; the wild meadow is full of bees and butterflies, the roses are in bloom, the lupins are all lined up like soldiers (no aphids this year :)) and the cosmos and sweet peas are coming along nicely to fill the gaps later on in the summer!
A sub committee has been elected!!
PLANTS / JAZZ BAND / CAKES & REFRESHMENTS / CREAM TEAS / RAFFLE
A limited number of tickets will be available (first come, first serve), however, for those who cannot make the date, I will be opening the garden for viewing plus a special priced cream tea until the end of July (by appointment only) and all proceeds will go towards our two chosen charities, Alzheimer’s Society and Macmillan Cancer Support. Last year we raised just over £1,500.00 and we hope to at least match that figure this year. More details to come. To receive updates please subscribe to our newsletter.
ART @ Second-Helpings
Those of you who have dined at Second-Helpings cant help but notice the art on the walls!!
Acclaimed artist, Barry Wilson, has kindly loaned us some of his original pieces to display in our contemporary dining space which are for sale.
This year the Royal Academy has accepted two of Barry’s paintings to show in the Summer Exhibition (they sold immediately!) – Very exciting news and great for Barry’s CV.
SHOUT OUTS!!
To Ally & Glynne. They came to tea at Second-Helpings as guests of another lady – I bumped into them one Sunday morning when meeting friends at Kingscote. Ally produces the delicious brunches at Kingscote Vinyard, just outside East Grinstead – If you search “bottomless brunch at Kingscote” on Google, you can find out all the details – its well worth a visit!!
AND to The Sloop Inn, near Scaynes Hill (the first pub I ever entered at the tender young age of xx!!) They arrange amazing organised dog walks once a month which are followed by a delicious two course lunch – again, well worth a visit!!
