Small, Local Businesses – Supporting each other
Following on from last month, we would like to feature another small business who will be exhibiting their work at our Open Day in the Summer – the date and the finer details have yet to be finalised but please keep tuned for more news ….. This month we are featuring the work of a very talented lady who works her magic with fabric!
What Katy Does Best
Katy McMillan started her curtain business in 1997 after completing her City and Guilds in soft furnishings and finding she had a great passion for fabric. It has come a long way since then, when having people sewing for her before having her children to now working by herself in her workshop in East Grinstead. She has and still does make curtains for lots of shops and designers around the West Sussex / Surrey area. The business has evolved over the years from just soft furnishings to now include the making of bags, cushions, throws, children’s dressing up clothes & props and decorative items for your home made from her great fabric stash. Many people say she is a hoarder of fabric but she feels everything can be used to make something beautiful. The name What Kay Does Best comes from two different things, the first being that Katy was named after the What Katy Did books as her mother loved them as a child and the second being very fitting as sewing is what she does best and picked up her first sewing needle at the age of 5 whilst staying with her grandmother. If you need a birthday present, thank you gift or any sort of soft furnishing item, from curtains to roman blinds please contact her on whatkatydoesbest.co.uk@gmail.com To view more visit her Etsy shop for gifts.
Recipe of the Month
Homemade Quiche – in or out of fashion?
Shop bought, mass produced quiche can sometimes be too thick or eggy, some have soft tasteless pastry, others are just a soggy anaemic taste of something resembling cheese! I’ve had some excellent feedback about my quiches, even from non-quiche-eaters!!
We have a variety of flavours on our takeaway menu; they are great on their own as a snack or with some homemade slaw and a jacket potato as a tasty lunch or supper – fillings are limitless so try this recipe today and experiment with your favourite ingredients.
Just a reminder – we are planning to continue with our takeaway food and would like to share a recent review from a lovely customer:-
We just wanted to say what a wonderful spread for our afternoon tea. Beautifully packed and all the food was just delicious good food freshly prepared we can’t say what was the best as it was all so good. We really did enjoy every course our taste buds were working overtime. Thank you so much for making Robin’s birthday so special and the chocolates were an added surprise.
Come and see us soon. Barbara xx 👍
