AUGUST UPDATE – Charity Day Success & Curry Club Announcement

AUGUST UPDATE – Charity Day Success & Curry Club Announcement

£700.00 raised at our Charity Day – Thank you for all your support!!

Sincere thanks to everyone who came and supported our Charity Day on 31st July. We raised (incl. gift aid) £700.00 and had around 70 people visit during the morning, the eldest being 99 years old. Marianne bought a very stylish dress from one of the stall holders and is coming to Second-Helpings to celebrate her 100th birthday 😊 – that will be a very special celebration!

Many thanks to the wonderful exhibitors – Terrie Hepburn HolmesWhat Katy Does BestSilverre Bespoke JewelleryAdorah fashion and to my amazing friends and neighbours who gave up their time to help or contribute in some way. Lucky winners of the fabulous donated prizes were Lisa, Alex, Iris, Helen, Jane, Ann, Frances, Jo, Sarah and Sam

The money will be divided between two exceptional charities – Alzheimer’s Society and Macmillan Cancer Support.

Next year we’ll be getting a few more stall holders on board and it will be held in June when the garden is at its best and hopefully less people on holiday!!

“It sounds like you had a wonderful day, I’m so happy to hear it! I am also very glad that you got some sunshine for the majority of the day! The pictures you sent look amazing, as do the display and the quiches – no surprise they sold out! Looking forward to next year!” The cash you have raised is an incredible amount, so I want to say a massive well done and a huge thank you! We truly appreciate you donating half of the total to us, and every single penny will make such a huge difference in the fight against dementia.” Matt Pilling, Alzheimer’s Society

“Delighted how the day went – An intimate and very friendly, warm atmosphere – people stayed & chatted over cake and tea and explored the gardens. Great networking & exposure too for the stall holders, all of whom are coming back next year. Added bonus for me was that my quiches sold out and I’ve been invited to be an exhibitor at a charity event in November” Barbara Davidson, Second-Helpings

Anyone for Curry?? National Curry Week is just around the corner – 7th – 12th October.

We will be celebrating by having two evening supper club events on Thursday 7th and Sunday 10th October.

Taking inspiration from chefs such as Vineek Bhatia (Rasoi), Vivek Singh (The Cinnamon Club), Atul Kochhar (Benares) and the Hairy Bikers,  we try our best to wow our guests with adaptations of authentic Indian recipes using freshly caught fish and prime cuts of meat …. some examples

Tandoori Jhinga
(fresh giant prawns marinated overnight with spices, ginger, garlic & yoghurt and then grilled to perfection!)

Lamb Galouti Kebab
(three miniature tender kebabs – an explosion of flavours which explode in your mouth)

Chicken Chettinadu
(a very distinct flavour of mustard seeds and curry leaves, just the right amount of heat)
